Biography

Dougal Kirkland graduated in 2017 from Goldsmiths with a BA in Fine Art where his work was primarily performance-based. Latterly developing an enthusiasm for drawing, he joined The Drawing Year to further his picture-making practice.

At the School he has drawn from observation, memory and imagination, taking inspiration from archaeological sites, artefacts and walks through the more ancient and enigmatic landscapes of Britain. Piecing together relationships to place, identities and histories, his work is underpinned by notions of myth, local folklore, and the concealed. Through an excavation and layering of marks, his printmaking lends itself as a natural extension of this rich visual language.
