‘Best of The Drawing Year’ at Christie’s
Before The Drawing Year 2012-13 Exhibition was installed at Shoreditch, it had already led a secret life in central London. In our first ever West End show on Wednesday 27th November 2013, a select 56 drawings were displayed at Christie’s International for one night only as part of our special collectors’ preview, Best of The Drawing Year 2012-13 Exhibition.
All 30 of The Drawing Year 2012-13 students had drawings on display, and many of them sold work into highly reputable private collections on a night that saw record-breaking sales. Students also had the opportunity to make valuable contacts with some influential art world heavyweights who came along to see the work, including Graham Southern (Founder of Blain Southern), Christopher Le Brun PRA (President of the Royal Academy), Charles Saumarez-Smith (Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy), Charles Booth-Clibborn (Founder of Paragon Press), Andrea Rose (Director of Visual Arts at the British Council) and Rachel Campbell-Johnston (chief art critic at The Times). These connections will stand them in good stead as they prepare to leave the Royal Drawing School and venture into the world as practising artists in 2014.
