Skills-based teaching forms an important part of The Foundation Year timetable where the first eight weeks of the course are devoted entirely to tutor led projects. As the course develops, structured workshops are continually delivered to support and equip students with an expanding range of skills, processes and techniques that will inform their personally directed work.
The skills-based workshops are focused on working from observation including from the life model, the city and the landscape to produce paintings, drawings, sculptures, animations and photographs. In addition to this, students draw weekly at museums and galleries in order to develop their understanding of traditional and contemporary art within a modern context.
The works displayed here are a selection of those produced by students at taught workshops during the first and second terms of the course.
