Christmas Holiday // Drawing the Figure: The Studio as a Stage

This course explores how the studio can be set up in imaginative ways to ignite fresh approaches to drawing space and the model within it. Theatrical configurations such as ‘in the round’ or proscenium arch, will inform our approach to composition, and the work of theatre designers will inspire ideas to create our own environment to make drawings from. During the week we will also look at how visual artists have constructed 'worlds,' from Rousseau's fantastical jungles inspired by the early films of Georges Méliès to William Kentridge and David Hockney's models for Opera.

Each day will have a different focus and begin with a slide talk to give reference and context.  There will be a mix of long and short drawing exercises and opportunities for experimentation with coloured materials. The model will join us in the studio bringing the sets to life and extending the possibilities of the figure in space.

Unfortunately, we do not offer concessions on our Christmas holiday courses.

All of our course rates are subsidised and we also offer a comprehensive concessions scheme. View all course fees and concessions.
