Christmas Holiday // Drawing into Painting
Drawing, like painting, is a tactile endeavour and through our mark making, connections and revisions, we reveal clarity, feeling and atmosphere. Sometimes we will make compositions speedily, and sometimes we will develop a drawing over several hours to see how compositions can evolve radically from their beginning. As a starting point, and with these concepts in mind, students will be drawing from different models on Monday and Tuesday and will be encouraged to develop the kind of drawing that leads to bold decisive lines or tones that evoke light, space and the model’s presence within a designed composition. From Wednesday to Friday students will paint in oils and will be encouraged to work with an imaginative and personal response while working perceptually from a chosen motif such as: observing yourselves (self-portraiture), your general surroundings within your room; this could include looking out towards a view of the world and light through a window that could incorporate both your interior and the exterior view, still life compositions. You will be shown how to achieve clarity of space by making decisions that affect the whole composition with the emphasis on firm, clear, unfussy structure with guidance on a choice of colour palette. One-to-one teaching, group seminars, slide talks and live colour mixing demonstrations will be offered throughout. All levels welcome including beginners.
You will have to purchase recommended materials; a material list will be sent out before the start of the course.
This course is for students 18 and over.
Unfortunately, we do not offer concessions on our holiday courses.
All of our course rates are subsidised and we also offer a comprehensive concessions scheme on term time courses. View all course fees and concessions.
