Drawing a Head 2
This course aims to provide students with a set of strategies to approach the formal aspects of looking and drawing the human head with the objective of developing their own language and strengthening their practice. Different concepts such as shape and proportion, mass, composition, negative space will be taken into consideration; various materials and processes will be explored. Together we will mine the rich vein of work of the great artists, accessing it on digital platforms by virtual visits to galleries to look at how they have drawn, painted and sculpted the head. Students will also be encouraged draw at every opportunity from both primary sources, such as self- portrait and/or companions, and secondary sources, such as photography, found images and other works of art. We can view the current situation as a challenge and opportunity to learn and develop as artists.
