Drawing a Story (Online)
Oral and written texts, myth and story provide a wealth of subject matter and imagery that chimes with our intrinsic human experience. Working with them becomes an energising process, an inspiring way of expanding on our personal stories and enriching our own material. Drawing and stories may spark tension, or suddenly unite and come together stimulating unexpected drawings. We look to further pull stories out from within as the pen moves across the paper - the act of drawing itself connecting us to our memories and imagination.
Working from a broad range of sources including short stories, poetry and film as well as mining our interior terrain to find exciting starting points, we will activate ways to construct our own evolving world, page after surprising page. Across the course a variety of projects, some short and others long, will be explored. We will cover a wide range of expressive forms of drawing and students are encouraged to experiment with elements of colour, such as watercolour or crayon, in their drawing.
