Drawing and Mindfulness 2 (4 weeks)

Suported by Audrey & Martin D Gruss 4

The mind is easily distracted. On this course, we will be slowing things down and focusing our attention on the sensory experience of a breath or a line. Mindfulness invites us to let go of thoughts as they arise and come back to the present moment, leading us to make clearer, more creative and compassionate choices. Combining observational drawing with the ancient practice of mindfulness will open us to new ways of seeing and refresh our relationship with the familiar.

Each class will explore a different subject (self portraiture, personal objects and our immediate environment) and emphasise a different aspect of mindfulness practice, including guided meditations throughout the day. On the last day, we will bring all elements together to make a ‘final piece’, incorporating subjects and techniques from our previous sessions. Students will be offered one-to-one tuition with tutors throughout the course, as well as group discussions, in which they can discuss their work and experience.
