Life Drawing and Anatomy: Mechanics of the Human Form (Drop-ins available)

This course concentrates on the structure of the body with the intention of developing the ability to see the figure more clearly and in more depth. Through looking at anatomical drawings from the Renaissance, we will address the mechanics of the figure and see how these internal systems manifest themselves on the surface of the body. By layering information and building a picture from inside to out, a fuller pictorial understanding of construction and function will be achieved. We will explore how to give life to anatomical drawing, balancing formal and expressive practice. Drawing will be from observation of the life model, memory and imagination, informed by a sense of inquiry and empathy.

This course includes Anatomy Lectures at 12 – 1pm, on 3, 17, 31 Oct, 14 and 28 Nov. Anatomy Lectures are open to the public at £5 (concessions do not apply to these lectures).
