One Week Holiday Course // Drawing into Mezzotint

In this course, students will learn to create a finished mezzotint print, from concept to completion. Starting with a tonal study, students will transfer their design onto a copper plate. Over the next few days, they will refine their image using a scraper and burnisher, mastering the techniques that give mezzotint its signature rich tones and textures. Students are encouraged to bring an object with simple geometric shapes (like a sphere or cube) to draw from, helping them connect more deeply with the work. The final day will focus on inking, wiping, and printing, giving students the satisfaction of seeing their creation come to life on paper. Whether you're new to printmaking or have some experience, this course offers a hands-on, supportive environment to learn and create.

Please note: Our Print Room has limited access and etching involves using hazardous chemicals. The print room environment is not suitable for everyone. Etching classes are unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, those sensitive to chemicals or with breathing difficulties.

Unfortunately, we do not offer concessions on our Summer School holiday courses.

All of our course rates are subsidised and we also offer a comprehensive concessions scheme on our term-time courses. View all course fees and concessions.
