Summer School // Drawing Comics and Graphic Novels

This course is suitable for both beginners and those with more experience. It is an ideal introduction to graphic storytelling, offering guidance on everything from choosing tools to generating ideas, using contemporary examples as a starting point for exploring the huge potential of the form. For those with projects already underway, this is an opportunity to reconsider process, receive feedback and experiment with technique. As well as in-depth discussion of the specific techniques used in sequential art, we will consider the art of unlocking our creativity more generally and how we might overcome fear of the blank page. There will be the opportunity for one to one tuition and feedback throughout each day, alongside group and pair work. By the final day students will have drafted and begun to ink their own graphic short story. This course is taught by the 2013 Observer/Comica/Jonathan Cape Graphic Short Story award winner. Open to all levels.
