The Materials of Drawing: Studio Workshop 2

Whilst rooted in drawing the figure from observation, this course also provides an opportunity for experimentation and invention. This is very much a hands-on course, in a lively and productive studio atmosphere. Students will be introduced to a wide range of raw materials with which they can draw, and will prepare their own inks, supports, painted grounds, pastels and printing materials that can be used when working from the model. By working with materials and methods not widely adopted, the course aims to show how these can positively influence the language and appearance of drawings.

Our five-week courses give students the opportunity to curate their own ten-week term and explore more than one aspect of drawing by booking two different 5-week courses. However if students prefer the longer format of a ten-week course, they can book the same five-week course twice. The courses will not follow the same structure in the first and second half of term, and tutors are able to adapt and tailor the course to each student based on whether you are taking it for the first time or are continuing on from the first half of the term.
