An in-depth drawing programme for 15-18 year olds
Our Young Associates programme is open to students in school years 10 to 13 considering careers in a broad range of subjects for which drawing from observation provides an important foundation. As well as fine art, these subjects include graphic and product design, illustration, fashion and textiles, film-making, animation, architecture, photography and engineering among many others.
Our focus on drawing and skills-based teaching, distinguishes us from other art schools, and we believe that joining the Associates programme will complement students' studies at GCSE and A level, as well as supporting applications to further and higher education including both foundation and undergraduate courses. The Royal Drawing School runs a one year fine art foundation course, The Foundation Year and the Young Associates programme provides an ideal springboard to students thinking about applying to this course.
Weekly classes of three hours duration are held on Saturdays at The National Gallery and at the School's own drawing studios in Shoreditch and Trinity Buoy Wharf. Associates benefit from serious and sustained tuition in an artist-led environment, amongst others with a passion for art and drawing. Help with the preparation of portfolios is offered in a termly one-to-one tutorial, and Associates who have attended the summer term and at least one other term during the year, are invited to submit work to an annual exhibition of drawings held by the School in September.
If students are unable to commit to a whole term we also run drop-in life drawing classes at our Shoreditch studios on Saturdays from 10am–1pm during term time.
The fee for this programme is £235 per ten week term unless stated otherwise, this includes teaching, tutorials and materials costs. There are three terms per year.
Booking for Young Associates Autumn courses are open. Once you have booked you will receive a confirmation email, this will include a link which will ask for additional details of the student who will be attending the course.
The school is committed to making all courses offered affordable and available to those who have a passion and aptitude for drawing.
