Summer Term 2021
Summer is coming! Summer Term 2021 runs from 26 April – 3 July.
We are looking forward to welcoming students back to our Shoreditch studios for Summer Term 2021. Read about the Covid-safe measures we are putting in place and what you can do to help.
The programme includes courses in drawing, printmaking and sculpture, and we will continue to offer a diverse range of online courses which explore many different aspects and approaches to drawing from composition, colour and observing the natural world, to wellbeing, imagination and perspectives from across cultures. Summer Term also sees the return of our Out of House courses in the streets and parks of London.
New courses for Summer Term include: Drawing a Head in the studio on a Monday, which investigates how our own perceptions affect the way in which we see others. Out of house on a Tuesday, Drawing London's River: A Dynamic Ecosystem, takes students on a journey along the Thames looking at how it is inhabited by people and animals, exploring links to the past and using the river as source of imaginative worlds. Out of house on a Monday Drawing Space: Interior and Exterior looks at the challenge of making drawings from large interior and exterior spaces in London. On a Tuesday evening, online course Drawing Topographies: Internal and External, draws inspiration from psychoanalysis, poetry and film to explore the meaning of subconscious topographies through the internal and external spaces that surround us. On a Friday evening, online course Friday Evening Portrait works collaboratively with models who have a background in dance or theatre focussing on expression and gesture. A new addition to our Saturday programme, online course Transforming Observation and Imagination reveals how, through drawing, the ordinary can become extraordinary, presenting playful and surprising encounters to enliven the way we draw.
Returning courses that make the most of the summer weather include Drawing in the Park on a Friday, an opportunity to examine London’s park life and develop confidence working in public spaces and London in Summer: Drawing by Night on a Tuesday evening which explores nocturnal London, challenging students to capture its rhythm with a sense of place. Returning online Drawing the Graphic Novel 2 promotes a deeper understanding of storytelling and graphic techniques through the creation of graphic novels or graphic short stories.
Drawing Development Summer Programme
This summer we will also be running our popular Drawing Development Summer Programme designed for Public Programme students who want to progress their practise through a combination of taught courses, mentoring and tutorial sessions. This year the programme will run online, giving artists from beyond London the opportunity to join for the first time.
We're looking forward to seeing you back in the studios this summer...
