Dumfries House Applications (US Applicants)

Residency Terms

The Dumfries House US residencies are currently only open to artists selected from our partner art schools in the United States.

The residency is intended to be a productive and creative period for the artist to be able to work in a peaceful environment, whilst enjoying Dumfries House, its grounds and the surrounding countryside.

Each artist will be provided with a studio, self-catering accommodation and one communal meal a day. The majority of artists will be eligible for help with their travel costs – please indicate on the form whether you are able to take up the residency without a travel award.  In all other matters, individuals are expected to be self-sufficient for the duration of their stay,

Visas are the artist’s own responsibility.

Please download the Memorandum of Understanding, which each artist will need to read carefully and sign before they are able to begin the residency.

Each of our partner institutions nominates suitable candidates who are then put forward to the selection panel. Artists will be selected for a month-long residency each during the Summer. Applications for US artists at Dumfries House are currently closed, applications will open again in Spring 2020.
