Biography
Charlotte Edey is a British artist (b.1992, Manchester) based in London. Edey’s work unravels issues of selfhood and the politics of embodiment through a process of world-building by way of weaving, embroidery, beadwork and drawing. The language of drawing is translated through her textile practice. Mark-making and gesture are explored through extensive hand-embroidery and beading on tapestry, relating thread, line and surface. Edey also employs found objects and artist frames as narrative devices to blur the boundary between the real and the represented, forming portals to slippery, otherworlds that reframe notions on the self, the domestic and the interior.
