Digital Studio - Evening | Life Drawing: Exploring Line
Discover the expressive potential of line in this online drawing session, exploring how marks define and describe the human form.
Experience a drawing class like no other.
These evening drawing sessions, broadcast live from the Royal Drawing School studios, are an opportunity for students to experience the dynamic and dramatic possibilities of the life room from home. Join students online from across the globe to draw from the model, theatrical sets, dancers, and more, with something new each week. Using a range of drawing practices, our expert tutors will guide you through a series of exercises over the course of each session.
Drawing could be described as the act of making a line. In this two-hour life drawing session, we will explore that basic act, looking in detail at how we use line in all its forms, supported by reference images from artists who have done the same in their own practices.
Led by tutor Fraser Scarfe, we will begin with short poses, focusing on our basic drawing vocabulary, enjoying the act of mark making and how those marks can describe the human form. The session will then culminate in a longer pose, giving participants the chance to create a sustained drawing from the whole figure.
Camera and visual effects will be used to enhance the drawing experience, allowing us to follow the form of the figure in close detail and through sustained close-ups. All levels welcome.
Suggested Materials:
- Charcoal, Pencil, Pen, ink
- Soft pastels / Oil pastels in an assortment of colours
