Young Artists Summer Holiday | Theatre in the Studio (10 - 14 years)
Theatre in the Studio
This course will explore the theme of Theatre in the Studio. During this course young artists will combine drawing from clothed life models in the studio and still life sets with imaginative drawing techniques and storytelling to bring their drawings to life.
Young artists will create a collaborative large scale drawing installation to use as a backdrop for the still life sets and for clothed models to inhabit. Students will also design sets, props, accessories (such as hats and jewelry for the model to wear) and characters to create and draw their own immersive worlds.
They will take inspiration from artists, set designers and film makers such as Paula Rego, David Hockney, Kiki Smith, and Pablo Picasso. They will also consider the worlds of Kabuki Theare performances like the Miyako Odori and films such Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro.
The course will focus on urban spaces and the natural world which will enable students to explore a broad spectrum of environments. This will not only give them the chance to reflect on how human-made spaces can relate to nature but also encourage them to think about how to bring those contrasts to life through their art.
At the end of the course, the goal is for students to confidently blend observational drawing and imaginative drawing into their work. The aim is for young artists to improve their technical drawing skills whilst also nurturing creativity, storytelling, and the ability to transform an idea into a physical space.
