Biography

Mary Roberts-Holmes is an artist who works in oil paints, drawing and printmaking. Mary makes paintings and drawings from observation, imagination and photographs. She works in series, the paintings often become abstracted through repetition. Mary’s recent work has focused on the landscape of Gwangju, a city in South Korea. Inspired by the burial mounds in the hills and mountains and also the high rise buildings, Mary made a series of paintings and drawings. She is interested in ways photography can be used in painting and the combination of photography, memory and observational painting. Mary studied a BA Painting at Camberwell College of arts and then a post graduate diploma at the Royal Drawing School.
