Nigel Glendinning

Professor Nigel Glendinning, who has died aged 83, was an internationally-respected expert on the history of Spanish art and, in particular, the works of Francisco de Goya; he did important work on the artist’s “Black Paintings” and in 2002 became embroiled in an academic dispute over the attribution of one of his best-known masterpieces, El Coloso (The Colossus).
