Digital Streaming Studio - Evening | Observation and Imagination
A live online life drawing session that will encourage students to work in a more experimental and explorative way.
Experience a drawing class like no other. These evening drawing sessions, broadcast live from the Royal Drawing School studios, are an opportunity for students to experience the dynamic and dramatic possibilities of the life room from home. Join students online from across the globe to draw from the model, theatrical sets, dancers, musicians and more, with something new each week. Using a range of drawing practices, our expert tutors will guide you through a series of exercises over the course of each session.
In this two-hour life drawing session we will explore how to push beyond drawing from observation, into a more imaginative realm.
Tutor, Elizabeth McCarten, will be working with a model in the studio introducing different drawing exercises that will encourage students to work in a more experimental and explorative way. Inspiration will also be drawn from other artists with the aim of aiding students on a journey towards a more personal and creative response to observational life drawing.
Suggested Materials:
Please have materials to hand that you would like to use and experiment with. It is good to have things set up nearby that you can get to quickly so please prepare your space before the start of the class.
- Charcoal or pencils
- Soft pastels
- Watercolour or ink and brushes
- Coloured pens
- Paper
- Something to lean on
- If you would like to prime some paper with a colour or tonal wash this might be interesting to work on
Please note: The Royal Drawing School online models will not pose nude. Models in this series will be semi clothed.
