The study of human anatomy is fundamental to drawing the figure. It helps us to understand and represent the structure of the human form, and to underpin expressiveness with accuracy. We’ll begin by learning to draw the skeleton very simply, noting ‘reference points’ where bone is found just under the skin. Next we’ll learn to place the major muscles: front, back and sides, and see how they interact. In doing so, you’ll find that you can already draw with greater conviction, flair and flexibility. There will be particular emphasis on the torso, limbs, head, eyes, hands and feet. We will work from life models, the skeleton, and casts.

Free charcoal, newsprint and masking tape are provided in the Studios. There is an added paper fee for the use of cartridge paper throughout the course.

This course is for students 18 and over.
