Digital Streaming Studio | Michelangelo at the British Museum

Be inspired by Michelangelo, as an artist and a person, in this online life drawing session in collaboration with the British Museum.

In this lunchtime online life drawing class the Royal Drawing School is partnering with the British Museum to celebrate their current exhibition, Michelangelo: the last decades. With unique access to exhibition footage and exclusive insights from curators, this session will allow you to get under the skin of Michelangelo’s work.

Through series of practical life drawing exercises led by Tara Versey you will gain greater understanding of Michelangelo as an artist and a person. We will look at how he approached drawing the figure, how we might also draw with some of his explosive inventiveness, and consider how the act of drawing might be turned into a means of spiritual meditation.

By drawing through the eyes of the great artist, we can deepen our own understanding of why Michelangelo’s drawings are some of the most important in art history, and find ways in which we might challenge and feed our own artistic practice.

Materials

All you will need are the simple materials of a pencil or charcoal, a rubber, sharpener, some paper and a board to lean on.
