New Gallery Studios: Opening in Autumn 2021

We are delighted to announce that a new purpose built studio and flexible gallery space will transform the ground floor of our Shoreditch campus, originally an old Victorian warehouse, on Charlotte road.

Shoreditch Charlotte Road

After the huge success of our online courses over the last 18 months, with new students joining us digitally from all over the world, the School is now investing in our physical home, bringing all of our studio-based courses together under one roof where students can once again work alongside one another. This new space will be made up of two large fully equipped drawing studios, with high ceilings and an abundance of natural light, which can be seamlessly converted into a contemporary exhibitions gallery.

These street level studios will not only be a window into the School's activities, enabling passers by a fuller view of our varied programme of exhibitions and events, they will also be easier to access for those who use a wheelchair or have mobility issues.

The School is thrilled to be working with architect Simon Hurst, known for his intelligent and sympathetic work with Listed Buildings as well as in conservation areas and new developments. He is Honorary Architect for the Art Workers' Guild, and for twelve years was the RIBA nominated Trustee of Hampstead Garden Suburb. He is also a Patron of Sir John Soane's Museum.

From October 2021 we will initially run over 20 courses from the Gallery Studios including a number of new four-week short courses; an opportunity for new and returning students to experience the space for the first time. These include: Enduring Motifs Through TimeThe Importance of Touch in Mark-Making and Subject Revealed: Drawing and Memories. Other eight-week returning courses taking place in the daytime and the evening include World Imagery: Drawing from Art, Drawing from LifeGraphic Narratives and Saturday course, Drawing and Mindfulness
