This course is designed to help you take your work from sketchbooks and unresolved pieces, and consolidate them into a final piece or series of work that will reflect your own inner world. During the sessions we will look deeply into our own narrative visions, memories and the world around us, drawing inspiration from narrative paintings by the Lorenzetti brothers and other Sienese artists; the work of Ken Kiff, Mamma Anderson, Paul Noble, Leonora Carrington, Dexter Dalwood among others.

We will be drawing from subjects both real and imaginary whilst examining the narrative structures utilised by the above artists. We may be drawing from a medieval landscape one week, or a contemporary street scene the next. The morning session will involve working from these selected images and from life in the room around you, compiling drawing after drawing. In the afternoon students will spend time creating a piece inspired by these drawings, through the use of collage, drawing and editing. These will all form part of the work for your final piece or pieces in week five. The use of many different materials will be encouraged. All abilities welcome.

Please note this course has an emphasis on the use of imagination and memory which can at times elicit difficult feelings for some.
